English Intent
All the skills of language are essential to participating fully as a member of society.
At Chellaston Infants we want to teach our children to speak and write fluently so that they can communicate their ideas and emotions to others and through their reading and listening, others can communicate with them.
Through reading we want children to have a chance to develop culturally, emotionally, intellectually, socially and spiritually. Reading also enables children to acquire knowledge and to build on what they know. Children at Chellaston Infants will also develop a love of literature through widespread reading for enjoyment and acquire a wide vocabulary. Our intent is that all children will be able to; read fluently with good understanding; develop an understanding of grammar; write clearly, accurately and coherently for a range of purposes and audiences; be able to discuss, elaborate, explain, make formal presentations and listen effectively with understanding.
